What are the advantages of registration?

If you are a registered user of Havanese Gallery you get new functions to use the website in a much more comfortable way. You get all the dogs you submitted in a list and you can edit their info and change their pictures without using a different password for each one of them (if you have submitted dogs to Havanese Gallery before, you can write their names to the registration form and I will add them to your profile). The number of the dogs are growing fast in Havanese Gallery and it can be difficult to find the dog you want - especially if you don't remember the name ;o). If you are logged in, you can add any dog or any trial breeding pedigree to your Favorites list with a simple click so it will be very easy to find them later. You can also add personal notes to any dog of Havanese Gallery. Of course these notes are not visible to the other visitors of Havanese Gallery, regardless if they are registered users or not..
The registration is free and its sole purpose is to make easier to use Havanese Gallery.

How can I find a dog in Havanese Gallery?

If you are searching for a dog who has the picture in Havanese Gallery it is the best to use the Quicksearch at the top of the page. It is enough to write a fraction of the name and you can also use the * character to substitute any letters in the name (the term bih*si will give you Bihari Bolyhos Dezsi in the results for example). Capitalization is not important in search terms. You can browse the names those dogs who have a picture submitted to Havanese Gallery through the ABC menu. If you hold the cursor over the letters of the ABC menu you can see how many dogs can be found under each letter. You can view the lists of the names ordered by Name, Country, or Year of birth. You can also decide if you want to see thumbnails of the pictures in front of the names or not (if you have a slow internet connection, the pages will load faster without the thumbnails).
You can do advanced search in Havanese Gallery at the Search page. If you add more terms to the search, you will only get those dogs in the result who suit for all the terms (so if you choose black as color, female as sex, USA as country, 6 as Max. age and check the Champions checkbox, you will get the list of the black champion females who live in the USA and younger than 6 years) If you uncheck the "Only with pictures" checkbox at the bottom of the Search form, you can search the ENTIRE database (yes, it contains more than 11000 Havanese)! By checking the "Available litters" checkbox you will get the list of the litters submitted to Havanese Gallery..

How can I add a Havanese to Havanese Gallery?

You can do it at the Submit page. You can only upload JPG pictures under 1 MB size. The pictures will be automatically resized to 450 pixels width in Havanese Gallery so it is recommended to submit pictures with at least this width to avoid loss of quality. Every dog can be submitted only once to Havanese Gallery. After you submitted the dog you will get a password what you can use for later editing the informations or changing the picture of that dog. If you are a registered user and you are logged in when you submit the dog, it will be added to your profile so you can edit it anytime without the password. You can add complete litters to Havanese Gallery through the "Submit litter" page (you can find it through the Submit page). You can submit a picture of the litter and informations about the pups and the parents. If you want, the litter will be displayed as available in Havanese Gallery until the age of 2 months. In this case, the litter will be displayed at the pages of the parents too. IMPORTANT: You MUST use the full, registered names of the puppies!!! You can also submit your former litters if the database of Havanese Gallery does not contain their names but you want them to be displayed as offspring of your dogs.

How can I find a pedigree?

You can find the link for the pedigree at the top right menu on the page of the dog. If you want to see the pedigree of a dog who does not have a picture in Havanese Gallery then go to the Search page, type in the name of the dog and uncheck the "Only with pictures" checkbox. You will get the dog in the search results and you'll be able to see his pedigree. At the pedigree page you can choose how many generations you want to see and also the way the pedigree is displayed (with pictures of the ancestors, with info of the ancestors or only with the names of the ancestors). You can also print the pedigree. The percentage in the title shows you the completeness of the pedigree (the rate of known/unknown dogs in the pedigree). You can also find inbreeding informations about the dog - COI is the inbreeding coefficient of the dog, LGD shows you the diversity of the last displayed generation. You also get the list of the ancestors the dog is inbred of. These ancestors are marked with different colors to make them easier to find in the pedigree. You can hide this list by clicking the Hide details link and if you want to see it again, just click on Show details. .

Hw can I print a pedigree?

At first you have to choose the number of the generations on the pedigree page then click on the Print link to get the printable (unformatted) version. For the best results, choose the horizontal (landscape) orientation for a 4 generations pedigree or the vertical (portrait) orientation for 5 generations at the page layout settings of your browser.

What does COI and LGD mean? Inbreeding informations.

COI is short for Coefficient Of Inbreeding. Havanese Gallery uses Hardiman's method to calculate COI (more info: http://www.highflyer.supanet.com/coefficient.htm). An example just for comparison: COI is 25% when you breed full siblings together - the value is 12.5% for the grandsire and the granddam too. COI is always calculated by the number of the displayed generations in the pedigree. If the pedigree is not complete, COI is calculated by the known ancestors - of course in this case it is not the real COI of the dog but this value could only be higher if the pedigree would bee complete. Amennyiben az adott törzskönyv minden felmenőt tartalmazna, ez az érték csak növekedhetne, alacsonyabb semmiképpen nem lehet.
LGD is short for "Last Generation Diversity". This value tells you the ratio between the number of the positions of the last generation of the pedigree and the number of the different ancestors in the last generation of the pedigree. For example, if you get the LGD=90% (60/54, 4 unknown) value for a 6 generation pedigree, it means the following: there are 4 unknown ancestors in the last (6th) generation. They cannot be used for the calculations so the maximum number of the possible different dogs in the last generation of this pedigree is 60 (64-4). The number of the different dogs in the last generation is 54 so it gives you the value of 90%. I know that my English is not good enough to give you a better explanation of LGD but I'm sure you will understand it quickly if you check it with some 3 and 4 generations pedigrees.
To make it simple: the more inbred a dog is, the higher the value of COI and the lower the value of LGD.
IMPORTANT: inbreeding values can be important for breeders. If you are not a breeder and do not really understand what inbreeding and linebreeding is all about, please ignore this information. Don't panic if you see your beloved pet has a quite high inbreeding coefficient - it does not necessarily mean bad at all!!!

What is trial breeding and how can I do that?

With trial breeding, you can see the pedigree and inbreeding values of the possible offspring of any dogs.
To do it click on the Trial breeding link on the page of the desired dog and type the name (or part of the name) of the other dog to the form. Then click on the name of the other dog and there you go!. If you are a registered user, you can add different trial breedings to the list of your favorites so you can easily compare them to each other later.
